DESCRIPTION
Fish puttu (Scrambled fish) is a simple & mild spicy fish dish. Its a very popular south indian recipe which is made with shark fish (Sura Meen in Tamil). This recipe can also made with any other variety of fish which has less bones (or) boneless
INGREDIENTS
- Fish (Tilapia/Salamon/Any Boneless) - 250 Grams
- Mustard seeds - 1/2 Tea spoon
- Fennel seeds - 1 Tea spoon
- Urad dal - 1/4 Tea spoon
- Garlic - 8 Pods
- Onion - 1 (finely sliced)
- Green chilli - 2 (finely chopped)
- Turmeric - 1/8 Tea spoon
- Chilli powder - 1/2 Tea spoon
- Garam Masala - 1/2 Tea spoon
- Salt - 1 Tea spoon
- Coconut oil - 1 Table spoon
- Coriander leaves - To garnish
- Roasted Jeera powder - 1/4 Tea spoon (Optional)
INSTRUCTIONS
Pre work
- Steam the fish pieces for about 15 minutes until well done and shred to pieces
- Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, after it splutters, add urad dal & fennel seeds
- Add garlic, onion, chopped chilli saute until it turns light brown
- Now add masala powder, cook until raw smell goes off
- Add shredded fish and saute until masalas combined well with fish
- Garnish with coriander leaves, roasted jeera powder & squeeze of lemon
STEP BY STEP PREPARATION
Arrange the fish pieces into stemaer and steam it for about 15 minutes or until it turns white/opaque. (Steamer or Idli steamer can be used)
Once the fish is cooked, shred it to pieces, finely chop the onion, garlic, chilli into pieces. Arrange the required ingredients & keep it aside
Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seed, once it splutters, add urad dal, fennel seeds, garlic & saute for a minute. Then add onion & chilli, saute until the onion turns light brown.
Now add turmeric, chilli powder, garam masala powder, saute until the raw smells goes.
Add the shreded fish, saute until the masala combined well with the fish. Add the roasted jeera powder and switch off the flame.
Garnish with coriander leaves & squeeze of lemon
NOTES
- Any boneless fish can be used for this recipe
- Using garam masala is optional, depends on individual taste
- Grated coconut can also be added for additional flavor & taste
